March has arrived. Can Christmas be far behind? Really… it’s March already, so we’d better welcome it in on this week’s Dress Circle (3/3 7:00 p.m.) with songs from just a few of the musicals that opened in New York this month.
Our list of openings is quite long, and we’ve chosen fourteen songs from quite a variety of shows spanning 112 years. The oldest opening happened in 1911, and the show was a huge hit, running for nearly 400 performances. It was “The Pink Lady,” and we’ll be playing an endearing melody from the show, “The Pink Lady Waltz.” Our latest opening comes from 2023 even though there are three shows opening this year. Sadly, we have no songs from any of these. The revival of “Sweeney Todd” won the toss, so we’ll be hearing from its leading lady, Annaleigh Ashford.
Some of the familiar shows this month include “1776,” “No Strings,” “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown,” and “Newsies,” but we’ve also included quite a few with which you may not be familiar (of course).
The shows we’ll hopefully be introducing you to include “Greenwillow,” “Goodtime Charlie,” It’s a Bird, It’s a Plane, It’s Superman,” “The Golden Apple,” and “St. Louis Woman.”
Familiar or “un,” we can promise you another happy hour of some charming performances, so we hope you’ll join us this Sunday evening.
