The Dress Circle: Frank Sinatra Sings Film Songs

It’s a program of film music on this week’s Dress Circle (4/13 7:00 p.m.), specifically films in which Frank Sinatra appeared. In fact, this week’s program features Frank singing songs from 11 scores.

Many of these songs were hits when he sang them like “What Makes the Sunset?” and “I Fall in Love too Easily” from “Anchors Aweigh” and the theme song for “The Tender Trap,” but hits or not, if you’re a fan of Sinatra, you’re surely going to love the program.

Other songs come from films and television musicals such as “Higher and Higher,” “On the Town,” “Till the Clouds Roll By,” “It Happened in Brooklyn,” “The Kissing Bandit,” “Take Me Out to the Ball Game,” “High Society,” and “Our Town.”

We also have a song planned from Sinatra’s short stint in the musical version of “Carousel” where he pulled out of the film because they were shooting it in two film formats to cover both traditional movie theatres of the day and those that could handle the new CinemaScope 55 format.

It’s an hour of Sinatra singing songs by some of Broadway and Hollywood’s greats like Jerome Kern, Oscar Hammerstein, Cole Porter, Richard Rodgers, Sammy Cahn, Jimmy van Heusen, Jule Styne, and more, so we hope you’ll join us this Sunday for a very pleasant evening.
