August is Happiness Happens month, and nothing makes us happier than a musical, so on this week’s Dress Circle (8/25 7:00 p.m.), we’re looking to fourteen songs about happiness from a variety of musicals.
We’re beginning with four songs that are simply titled “Happiness.” They come from “Passion,” “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown,” “Scrooge,” and “Rocky.”
From there, our happiness runs far afield with songs like “The Picture of Happiness,” “A Little Touch of Happiness,” “The Moments of Happiness,” “A Little Happiness,” “Your Children’s Happiness,” and “Happiness Is Just a Thing Called Joe.”
We’re also turning to a television musical by Styne and Robin titled “Ruggles of Red Gap” for the song “I’m in Pursuit of Happiness” which Styne would reuse a few years later for a musical he wrote with Sondheim. Tune in to see if you recognize it.
All in all, we feel we need more happiness, and we’re going to give it our best shot on this week’s program to impart some on you.
