The Dress Circle: Songs from the Shows of November

It’s November, and that’s a terrifying thought. Before we rush head-long into the holidays, we’re going to be celebrating the shows that opened and are opening this month on this week’s Dress Circle (11/3 7:00 p.m.).

From the first production, “A Trip to Chinatown,” an incredibly popular musical that opened in 1891 and ran for an incredible 657 performances! From there, we’ll fast forward 133 years to a show that’s opening on 11/12 of this year. It’s the transfer of a very popular musical that played in South Korea entitled “Maybe Happy Ending.” The fascinating story is about two “helpbot” domestic robots who fall in love, and the way AI is going, that might not be too far off!

We’ve also included songs from some other recent openings that include the very popular “& Juliet,” a jukebox musical featuring an adaptation of “Romeo & Juliet” with music by Max Martin and Barry Manilow’s “Harmony.”

Some of the forgotten shows we’ll be showcasing include “The Desert Song,” “Little Johnny Jones” (featuring a performance by its creator, George M. Cohan), “Walking Happy,” and two by Cole Porter: “Leave It to Me” and “Fifty Million Frenchmen.

There’s more, but we don’t want to give it all away.

We’ve worked hard to put together a truly varied playlist this week, so grab a beverage and join us this Sunday evening for an hour of great songs.
