Happy 2025! At least, we’re hoping that it will be for everyone. We’re welcoming January as we always do on The Dress Circle (1/5 7:00 p.m.) with songs from just a few of the shows that opened this month.
We don’t have a large number of openings from which to choose since January is a lean month as everyone is recovering from the holidays, but we’re still able to cover 122 years of Broadway history within the eleven shows we’ve chosen.
We’ll begin with a song from a long-forgotten show “The Toreador” performed by its originator, William H. Thompson from 1902, and bookend the evening with one from the most recent New York opening, Adam Guettel’s “Days of Wine and Roses” which opened last year.
Although many of the shows may be unfamiliar, the composers and lyricists should be familiar. From George and Ira Gershwin, we’ll hear one of their songs from “Rosalie,” and Kander and Ebb we’ll hear a song from the forgotten “The Happy Time.”
We’ll also hear from shows like “Lady in the Dark,” “Little Women,” and “Black and Blue” as well as several others.
One of our favorites is an interesting piece from Stephen Sondheim’s “Pacific Overtures.”
It’s another happy mix that will certainly introduce you to some works that may be new to you, and we love doing that. Join us on Sunday!
