41 years ago on a Thursday evening, the first presentation of The Dress Circle aired, and on this week’s program (2/16 7:00 p.m.), we’re going to celebrate that inauspicious beginning with songs from some of the musicals that were playing around the time our program began.
Our playlist contains fourteen musicals, and as always, we’ve got some familiar and some not so familiar works from which we’ve chosen songs.
Our familiar scores include “Mame,” “Evita,” “La Cage aux Folles,” and “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.”
Those scores with which you may be unfamiliar include “Doonesbury,” “Dance a Little Closer,” “Merlin,” and “Pump Boys and Dinettes.”
Sadly, we don’t have recordings from all of the shows, but we’re very pleased with what we’ve been able to include, and you’ll hear performances by some Broadway favorites such as Angela Lansbury, George Hearne, Brent Barrett, Debra Monk, Patty LuPone, and Mandy Patinkin along with many others.
We hope you’ll join us as we begin our 42nd year as volunteer hosts of The Dress Circle this Sunday evening. Thank you again for inviting us into your homes and giving us the opportunity to bring you this labor of love each week.
