We’re welcoming in April with our regular monthly feature on this week’s Dress Circle (4/4 7:00 p.m.) by looking at some of the shows that opened in New York this month, and we’re spanning 114 years of musical history in doing so!
Our earliest show is “Little Miss Fix-It” from 1911. It was written by and starred a musical “power-couple” from the beginning of the 20th century: Nora Bayes & Jack Norworth. You’ll hear them in one of the songs from the score, “Turn Off Your Light Mr. Moon-Man.” Our latest musical is one that’s opening this year. “Boop! The Betty Boop Musical” opens on 4/5 and has music and lyrics by David Foster and Susan Birkenhead, and we wish it all the best for a long run.
Another 2025 opening is Adam Guettel’s “Floyd Collins” which is the story about a Kentucky man who became trapped in a cave he was hoping would make him rich. The resulting media circus above ground literally became a circus as Collins slowly died underneath. Jeremy Jordon will take the lead in the Broadway version.
Other songs come from favorites like “The Secret Garden,” “Kinky Boots,” and “Follies” with a few coming from lesser-known or remembered works like “Destry Rides Again” and “Babes in Arms.”
Join us for another happy hour of great music in a wonderful place to escape: The Dress Circle.
