One recurring theme we’re hearing for this year’s Memorial Day is about “getting away” for the weekend, so on this week’s Dress Circle (5/25 7:00 p.m.), since it’s Memorial Day weekend, we’re going on a Memorial Day Getaway with the musicals.
We’ve scheduled nearly a dozen songs which are mostly about the sea and beaches since that seems to be the getaway for most people in our listening area.
Note: Most of us around here say that we’re “going down to the shore” which seems to upset some people, but think about it this way: Unless one is living in places including Louisiana, the Netherlands, and certain parts of California or Florida, one live above sea level, so one must go “down” to the shore (you know, “Those who go down to the sea in ships…”). We’ll leave it at that.
We’ll be going to the sea with songs from “High Button Shoes,” “By the Beautiful Sea,” “Lotus Land,” “Sweeney Todd,” and “Jamaica” to name a few. We’ll also be heading off to the mountains with “The Garrick Gaeties of 1926,” to Paris with the Chipmunks, and just on holiday with “Mary Poppins” and “Summer Holiday.”
Forego the traffic, tolls, and parking worries, and take a trip with us this Memorial Day weekend.
