Happy New Year! (We hope.) We're still showcasing musicals that opened each month on the Dress Circle (1/4 7:00 p.m.), but instead of framing the program with the "oldest" and "newest" openings, we decided, instead, to pick a random sample of musicals we haven't showcased in a while to present their overtures and opening numbers or prologues to give a bigger picture of entire piece.
Our playlist of nine includes work by Jerome Kern, George Gershwin, Richard Rodgers, Vincent Youmans, Albert Hague, and Kurt Weill for the overtures along with opening numbers by the composing teams of Ahrens and Flaherty, Schmidt and Jones, and Kander and Ebb.
Some of those musicals include “Have a Heart,” “Strike Up the Band,” “Pal Joey,” “No, No Nanette,” “Ragtime” and “Celebration” to name a few.
Once again, we think we've put together an interesting program of familiar and unfamiliar works, and we hope you’ll tune in this Sunday evening.
