More French music is coming your way on this week’s Dress Circle (1/25 7:00 p.m.) as we look at “It’s So French, Part 2.”
We’ve turned to five more musicals, this time all stage musicals, with which you might not be familiar.Lyricist Luc Plamondon is represented by two works, “La Legende de Jimmy” about two young people who hold a vigil at Jimmy Dean’s graveside and “Cindy: Cendrillon 2002) which is another updating of the Cinderella story where Cindy and her “prince,” rocker Ricky, end up blasting off in their spaceship to find a world of their own.
Our afternoon of French rock operas also includes “La Revolution Francaise,” “Les Dix Commandments,” and “The Red and the Black” which is based on Stendahl’s novel of the same name.
Sadly, we can’t play you complete scores, but we’re hoping that you’ll get a taste of these shows, many of them extremely popular hits, so that you can look for the cast recordings and enjoy some unfamiliar works.
