Happy April, and although the month is starting to look like one that’s unsettled as much as March was, we’re still going to celebrate just a few of the shows that opened in April on this week’s Dress Circle (3/5 7:00 p.m.).
We’re only looking at eleven musicals this week as we focus on overtures and opening numbers, but we’re still covering 100 years of Broadway history.
Our earliest work is a musical by the Gershwins and Buddy DeSylva entitled “Tell Me More.” The score for which was made available on a two-CD studio cast recording. The more recent shows on this week’s program include “Dead Outlaw,” “The Outsiders,” “Smash,” and “Pirates! The Penzance Musical” which is an adaptation of the G & S favorite set in the American southern coast.
We’ve included some more familiar fare as well: the overture to “Annie” and the opening number to “A Chorus Line.”
Other musicals this week include “A Tree Grows in Brooklyn,” “On Your Toes,” “Countess Maritza,” and “She Loves Me.”
It’s another enjoyable hour of music on this week’s program, and we hope you’ll join us this Sunday evening.
