The Dress Circle: Celebrating National 8-Track Tape Day

Who knew that there was a day set aside for the celebration of 8-Track tapes? It’s on April 11, but this week’s Dress Circle (4/12 7:00 p.m.) is dedicated to it since we couldn't let it pass. We need something to celebrate, and it's just so wonderfully strange.

Since we no longer have a collection of 8-track cassettes (but we do have a player somewhere), we thought we'd turn to some of the musicals that opened the year that 8-track tapes were introduced in the U.S., and that's 1965.

We've programmed 12 songs from well-known musicals like "Man of La Mancha" and "The Roar of the Greasepaint and the Smell of the Crowd," but most of them are far less popular like "The Yearling," "Flora the Red Menace," "Baker Street," "Drat! The Cat!", and "Kelly." Many of which ran for fewer than 100 performances with at least 3 running fewer than 10 performances.

Even though some of the shows were flops (one was called “The flop by which all flops will be measured,” the songs are all good, and we’ve got some excellent talent to bring them to you.

Join us for another hour exploring some wonderfully forgotten shows and songs, even if the reason we’re looking at them gives us a good giggle. We honestly think we need a good giggle right now.
