The Dress Circle: After Labor Day - Baby Day!

During a recent medical procedure that involved anesthesia, Michael came up with a brilliant idea for this week’s Dress Circle (6/13 7:00 p.m.). We never program a “Labor Day” program because the Sunday of that weekend is generally the first Sunday, so we default to our monthly feature looking at shows that opened in September. Through the dim haze of waking up, Michael thought, “What comes after Labor Day?” The response came quickly and with great clarity: After Labor Day comes “Baby Day”! For some reason Ted wanted to run with that idea, so we’re bringing you a program of “baby” songs from the musicals showcasing a wide variety of “babies.”

Our “baby baby” songs, and there aren’t that many, come from vehicles including “Baby,” “Dumbo,” “Carib Song,” and “Chicago” which is a bit baby-adjacent.

Other musicals and films include “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” “Hard to Get,” “Easter Parade,” “The Grass Harp,” and “Dames at Sea.”

Of course, we’ll have a recording of “Broadway Baby,” but not THAT “Broadway Baby.”

With that, we let the anesthesia speak this week to bring you what turned into a truly interesting program of songs from the musicals. Stay tuned, Michael’s going to need to have at least three more procedures, so there just might be more anesthesia fueled themes in our future!
