The Dress Circle . July 2 . Musicals in Concert, Part 2

The Dress Circle this week (7/2 7:00 p.m.)  will be taking a second look at musicals that have been performed in concert settings.  Usually, this is done to aid a charity and features an all-star cast.  This is true in the case of the concert version of "Dreamgirls" which was in benefit of The Actors' Fund.  This recording starred Lillias White, Audra McDonald, Heather Headley, and Billy Porter.  In the case of Stephen Sondheim's "Follies" which was performed at Lincoln Center in 1985 and the Brooklyn Academy of Music double staging of George and Ira Gershwin's "Of Thee I Sing" and "Let 'em Eat Cake," the concerts were performed with all-star casts in order to try to record definitive versions of the scores.   The "Follies" segment of the program features Barbara Cook, George Hearn, Lee Remick, and Elaine Stritch.  For "Let 'em Eat Cake," you'll hear Maureen McGovern, Larry Kert, George Dvorsky, and Jack Gilford.
