The Dress Circle: A Trip Down Musical Memory Lane

We got a little carried away by overwhelming nostalgia on this week’s Dress Circle (3/10 7:00 p.m.).  While we were planning a previous program, we listened to a cut on a newly acquired CD, and that sent that nostalgia spinning.  The result is this program that looks at some of our musical memories.  Now, these all don’t come from musicals but are pieces that played a role in our childhoods and, often, into our adult lives.

For instance, Ted loves Jiminy Cricket from “Pinocchio,” so we have two songs performed by “Ukulele Ike” (Cliff Edwards) who gave Jiminy life.  Other themes and songs come from TV shows such as “Mr. Ed” and “The Mighty Hercules” and “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town” (Who doesn’t love the Winter Warlock whose icy heart melts when he’s given a toy for the first time?)  Hear how Ted learned to dance from Andy Panda and Michael’s love for Mel Blanc and the Looney Tunes gang.  It’s a musical-stream-of-consciousness-ride of which Virginia Woolf would approve!  We guarantee that you won’t find programming like this hour anywhere else over the airwaves!

Michael is program host and host of the WWFM Sunday Opera, Sundays at 3 pm, and co-host of The Dress Circle, Sundays at 7 pm.
