We’re welcoming in October on this week’s Dress Circle (10/6 7:00 p.m.) with just a few of the shows that opened or will open this month, and the results span 116 years of Broadway history from Victor Herbert’s “Babes in Toyland” through Rob Rokicki’s “The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical” which transfers to Broadway from off-Broadway for a limited run beginning this month. Filling the space left by these “bookends” are Dress Circle favorites like “Jamaica,” a vehicle for Lena Horne, “Raisin,” a musicalization of Lorraine Hansberry’s “A Raisin in the Sun,” Stephen Schwartz’s musical look at the life of Charlemagne and his son, “Pippin,” and the wildly popular adaptation of the music of ABBA, “Mamma Mia!”.
Some of the other shows we’ll be sampling include “Golden Boy,” “Call Me Madam,” “Bloomer Girl,” “Cats,” and the 1994 revival of “Show Boat” just to name a few. Join us for a diverse survey of some of the best of Broadway from over a century.
