The Dress Circle: The Shows of March 2020

We’re having a revival on this week’s Dress Circle (3/1 7:00 p.m.).  Well, we’re actually having quite a few revivals because that’s the focus of this month’s look at some of the shows that opened in New York in March.   One of those revivals is so recent that it hasn’t even opened yet, and that’s the latest incarnation of Stephen Sondheim’s “Company” which will mark the fourth time it’s returned to New York, this time with a female “Bobbie.”  Some of the other shows we’ll be sampling include the revival of “The Threepenny Opera” in its 1954 revival that ran for a total of 2,611 performances eclipsing the initial run of 12, “Annie Get Your Gun” in the 1999 revival starring Bernadette Peters that ran for 102 fewer performances (1045) of the initial run in 1946, and the 2002 revival of “Oklahoma!” from London starring Hugh Jackman.

We’ve got the most recent revival of “She Loves Me” from 2016 and “How to Succeed in Business…” with Daniel Radcliff from 2011.  Rounding out some of the fan favorites are Alan Cumming in “Cabaret” in 1998, the first of the two revivals in which he starred, and one of our favorites, “On Your Toes” from 1983.   It’s all about revivals this week and we promise, there won’t be a tambourine in sight!
