La Fiocco - Actus tragicus: J. S. Bach’s Cantata 106 and music of Bach’s predecessors

La Fiocco - Actus tragicus: J. S. Bach’s Cantata 106 and music of Bach’s predecessors

La Fiocco teams with Vocala Ensemble, a professional chamber choir based in northern New Jersey, for this concert of sacred and instrumental music by J. S. Bach (1685-1750) and some of his North German predecessors including David Pohle (1624-1685), Franz Tunder (1614-1667), Dietrich Becker (c. 1623-1679), Matthias Weckmann (c. 1616-1674), and Dieterich Buxtehude (c. 1637-1707). This is a rare opportunity to hear the exquisite music of the North German tradition, with Actus tragicus, also known as Gottes Zeit ist die allerbeste Zeit, still celebrated as one of Bach’s most moving cantatas with its haunting writing for vocal soloists, choir, recorders, violas da gamba, and organ.
