A Tempo: The Dessoff Choirs Expands Traditional Holiday Repertoire with Works by Bonds, Williams

Dec 16, 2021

A Tempo wraps up its series looking at the return of choral ensembles to live performances for the holiday season this Saturday (12/18 at 7 pm) with an interview with Malcolm Merriweather, music director of The Dessof Choirs about being able to perform in person and this season's programming choices. The choir held its annual Messiah Sing earlier this month, inviting audience members to join the choir for choruses from Handel's Messiah, and its performance December 19 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art will feature Margaret Bonds' Christmas cantata The Ballad of the Brown King, Mary Lou Williams' Black Christ of the Andes.  This episode also includes the conclusion of an interview with Liza Beth, vice president of membership and communications with Chorus America, about how choirs are planning this year's season as they continue to monitor ongoing pandemic concerns.
