Because of the length of the Sunday Opera, we’re going fashionably late to this week’s Dress Circle (10/13 8:00 p.m.) as it, and all of the subsequent Sunday programming, will begin one hour later than usual.
We’re heading off to Broadway on this week’s Dress Circle. That may seem a bit redundant, but we’re going to be looking at songs about Broadway from stage and screen musicals.
Some of the stage works include “Broadway, My Street” from “70, Girls, 70,” “Turn Me Loose on Broadway” from “Two’s Company,” and two, count ‘em, two different songs with the title “Broadway Baby” from “Dames at Sea” and, of course, “Follies.”
We only turned to Hollywood once, and we cheated a little. We’re using “Broadway Melody” that originally appeared in the film “Singin’ in the Rain,” but we decided to use a British stage cast album instead of the film score which has a great deal of extraneous material in it.
We’ve done our best to amass a playlist of familiar and unfamiliar works again, and we think we’ve got a pleasant evening in store for you.
Remember, it starts at 8:00 this week because Wagner just has to take his time!
