Another year has just about come to an end, and we’ll begin this final month with our regular feature on this week’s Dress Circle (12/1 7:00 p.m.) as we listen to a few of the shows that had openings in New York in December. From Victor Herbert’s “Mlle. Modiste” in 1905 to our latest opening for which we have a cast recording, 2023’s “How to Dance in Ohio,” we’ll be sampling songs from shows spanning 118 years.
This month, most of the musicals at which we’re looking are those with which you will probably be familiar. From classic musicals such as “Pal Joey,” “Kiss Me Kate,” and “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes,” we’ll turn to a few more recent openings of shows like “The Color Purple” and “Shrek: The Musical.”
There are a few that you may have missed, possibly because of shorter runs. These include “Flying Over Sunset” and “Lysistrata Jones.”
There are more, but regardless of knowing the shows we feature or not, you’re sure to enjoy a pleasant hour of music with us each Sunday. We’d also like to remind you that a musical or play has to be pretty special in order to make it to Broadway in the first place, and whether or not it runs, it still beat the odds, so there must be something special about it.
Tune in, sing, dance, and be happy!
