    The Dress Circle: Songs from the Shows of December

    Another year has just about come to an end, and we’ll begin this final month with our regular feature on this week’s Dress Circle (12/1 7:00 p.m.) as we listen to a few of the shows that had openings in New York in December. From Victor Herbert’s “Mlle. Modiste” in 1905 to our latest opening for which we have a cast recording, 2023’s “How to Dance in Ohio,” we’ll be sampling songs from shows spanning 118 years.
  • December's birth flower is the narcissus, and the paperwhite was always something that bloomed in our house each year. Nestled among the blooms are a few of the musicals we're sampling this month.

    We're covering 155 years of theatre history on this survey which includes some of the musicals that opened in New York in December from the 1870 revival of "Barbe-Blue" by Jacques Offenbach to the show set to open shortly, "How to Dance in Ohio" based on the award-winning documentary of the same name.
