We're continuing with our celebration of Women's History Month on this week’s Dress Circle (3/22 7:00 p.m.), and this time, we're looking at some of the female lyricists who added their talents to thirteen musicals.
We're looking at over 100 years of writing beginning with lyricists who wrote in the early years of the 20th century including Rida Johnson Young, Anne Caldwell, and Dorothy Donnelly.
The middle of the century saw works by Dorothy Fields and Carolyn Leigh.
The last third of the century includes Gretchen Cryer, Ellen Fitzhugh, Marsha Norman, and Susan Birkenhead.
Our representatives from the 21st century include Mindi Dickstein, Lisa Kron, Amanda Green, and Rebekah Melocik.
We’ll be sampling songs from works such as “Maytime,” “The Student Prince,” “A Tree Grows in Brooklyn,” “Grind,” “The Secret Garden,” “Little Women,” “Fun Home,” “How to Dance in Ohio,” and more.
It’s another hour of familiar and not-so-familiar music and excellent performances of lyrics written by some of Broadway’s best.
