Sometimes, one just needs a place, a special place to find solace and comfort, and we’re going to look at fourteen of our favorite places to escape on this week’s Dress Circle (4/20 7:00 p.m.).
We’ll “Leave the World Behind” in “The Beautiful Land” where “The Sea of the Moon” sparkles. “Our Private World” will offer us “Somewhere That’s Green” and “A Place Called Home.” We can call it “Loveland,” “Somewhere,” or “Never Never Land,” but it really will be our “Xanadu.” Then again, there’s “Santa Fe.”
The musicals this week include “Cinderella,” “Follies,” “On the Twentieth Century,” “West Side Story,’ “Peter Pan,” “Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves,” “Newsies,” and “Steel Pier” among others.
Performing the songs about our special places, you’ll hear: Julie Andrews, Bing Crosby, Christian Bale, Ellen Green, Lee Wilkof, Karen Ziemba, Daniel McDonald, Reri Grist, and Mary Martin to name a few.
The songs and performances are wonderful even if the introductions are a bit less than we would have hoped. (A microphone issue, which has been rectified for next week, gave us some variable sound in the intros and outros, but the songs are just as they should be.) Join us this Sunday evening as we try to transport you to some happier places through the musicals.
