You know that we can’t pass up some “calendar art,” and on this week’s Dress Circle (5/11 7:00 p.m.), we’ve held true to our urges and compiled a show of songs about “mother” from the musicals for Mother’s Day.
We purposely went digging for our fourteen songs, and we’re fairly sure that we’ve not used most of them in previous Mother’s Day or parenting programs. The result is that we’ve got songs from shows which we’ve never used before.
Some of those unfamiliar musicals include Rodgers and Hart’s “Betsy,” Ivor Novello’s “A Musical Jubilee,” and a song from the film score to “Here Come the Waves” by Arlen and Mercer.
If you’ve been a longtime listener to the program, you’ll probably recognize the musicals, if not the songs, including “Cowgirls,” “70, Girls, 70,” “Pumpboys and Dinettes,” “Minnie’s Boys,” and “Grey Gardens.”
We’ve got songs about mothers, mamas, grandmothers, fairy godmothers, and mamaws. The songs and performances are wonderful, and we hope you’ll tune in to see if we’ve chosen a song that describes someone to whom you may be related!
