We’re spanning 131 years of musical history on this week’s Dress Circle (10/5 7:00 p.m.) as we look at a dozen shows that opened in New York this month from a long forgotten 1894 musical to two revivals opening this year.
We’re beginning with a song written by Chauncey Olcott, an extremely popular performer of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. As well as performing, he was a composer, playwright, director, and producer as well. The musical was “The Irish Artist,” and Olcott, who was born in the UK, specialized in Irish roles. We’ll hear from the composer in a song entitled “My Beautiful Irish Maid.”
Our latest openings are revivals of the Ahren’s and Flaherty hit “Ragtime” and a stop on the national tour of “Beetlejuice.”Both are scheduled as limited engagements and slated to close early next year.
As Always, we’ll have songs from familiar shows such as “Mamma Mia,” “Victor / Victoria,” and “Wicked” as well as Lesser-known works like “Ben Franklin in Paris,” “Too Many Girls,” and “Take Me Along.”
We’ve also got songs from recent and current shows like “Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson” and “Six.”
It’s an hour of great music and good fun, and we hope you’ll join us this Sunday evening for another happy hour.
