The Dress Circle: Some of Michael's Favorites

We’re turning to the first of two programs on this week’s Dress Circle (10/19 7:00 p.m.) that will feature some of our favorite songs from stage and screen musicals and soundtracks. Michael is up first, and he’s chosen 13 vastly different songs that really do express his rather eclectic tastes, and by no means is this even the tip of the iceberg of the list of his “favorites.”

He’s divided his choices into groups and begins with songs from shows that he didn’t get to see but fell in love with upon hearing the cast albums for the first time. These include the musicals “Steel Pier,” “Seesaw,” “Fade Out / Fade In,” and the original cast of “The Fantasticks.”

His second group of songs come from shows he and Ted got to see in London and made huge impressions on him although they were not well received and never transferred. These include “Hard Times: The Musical,” “Moby Dick,” and the original production of “Children of Eden.”

The next segment turns to films with two numbers that just make him happy. These come from “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” and “The Band Wagon.”

The final group includes songs that are more than just songs for him. These come from “Dear World,” “Chicago,” “Cabaret,” and “Very Warm for May.”

What are they? Well, he doesn’t want to give too much away, so you’ll just have to tune in this Sunday evening or wait for the webcast to find out!
