Pupazzo, fantoche, puppen, dukker, puppets, or whatever they’re called, have always been a part of story telling and theatre around the world, and on this week’s Dress Circle (10/18 7:00 p.m.), we’re going to be looking at a variety of musicals in which puppets were central or featured components.
The familiar works include “Avenue Q,” “Carnival!”, “Little Shop of Horrors,” “The Lion King,” and “Nunsense.” We’ve also included songs from lesser-known musicals such as Bill and Cora Baird’s Broadway outing entitled “Man in the Moon” which had a score by Bock and Harnick and “Flahooley,” a satirical look at McCarthyism, capitalism, and political hysteria by Fred Saidy and E.Y. Harburg.
The second half of the program is dedicated to the world’s best-known puppets: the Muppets, with songs from “Treasure Island,” “The Wizard of Oz,” “A Christmas Carol,” “The Muppet Movie,” and “The Muppet Show.”
Join us for a musical evening featuring the “fabric” of life as we look at some Musical Puppets.
