We’re going to be exploring the current travel “mania” on the next two Dress Circle programs. This week (8/8 7:00 p.m.), we’ll be offering some musical vacation plan suggestions based on visits to Coney and other Islands (some of which are allegorical). Our Coney Island suggestions come from “Love Never Dies,” Andrew Lloyd Webber’s sequel to “Phantom,” two ballets from the Leonard Bernstein, Betty Comden, and Adolph Green show “On the Town,” and a song from “By the Beautiful Sea” by Arthur Schwartz and Dorothy Fields about the famous ‘Coney Island Boat.”
For our other islands, we’ll be turning to shows like “The Red Mill,” “Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown,” “Sitting Pretty,” “Just So,” “Let It Ride,” and “Inside U.S.A.”
You may not know the shows or the islands, but sometimes, a trip to an unknown destination is just what is needed to spice things up a bit.
