The Dress Circle: The Return of Chenoweth

The news broke recently that Kristin Chenoweth is heading back to Broadway in the 2025-26 season in Stephen Schwartz’s new musical titled “The Queen of Versailles,” and on this week’s Dress Circle (8/18 7:00 p.m.), we’re going to join in on the celebration as we turn to songs from her impressive career.

Chenoweth was born in Oklahoma in 1968, and she started singing gospel music as a child and studied opera before she turned to the world of musical theatre, and that early training is incredibly evident in her performances such as her first Broadway role in Kander and Ebb’s “Steel Pier.” As Precious McGuire, she brought the house down each night with her soaring vocals, especially since they were coming from such a petite package.

Among the other state appearances we’ll feature, we have her Tony Award winning performance as Sally Brown in the 1999 revival of “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown” as she delivers her wonderfully manic “My New Philosophy.”

Of course, we’ll hear several songs from “Wicked” including our favorite, “Popular,” as well as songs from “A New Brain,” “Promises! Promises!”, and the TV scores of “The Music Man” and “Annie.”

We’re planning on rounding out the program with a few songs from her solo CDs including one that truly shows off her incredible versatility from the long-lost musical “Take a Chance” titled “Should I Be Sweet?”.

Join us for an hour featuring one of the best voices to be heard on a Broadway stage.
