Since we're running out of "March," this week's Dress Circle (3/29 7:00 p.m.) is our last one celebrating Women's History Month, and we're turning to Broadway Anthems specifically written for female characters from twelve shows.
Anthems often describe a character's hopes, personal decisions, and journey while often bridging the character’s experiences with that of the audience allowing the audience to make the journey with them (or, at least, feel compelled to respond in some way).
To this end, we've programmed twelve of these anthems from well-known pieces like "Let It Go" from "Frozen" and "Defying Gravity" from "Wicked," to lesser-known songs like "Spark of Creation" from "Children of Eden" and "I Want It All" from "Baby."
Some of the other shows we’ll sample include “Follies,” “Ragtime,” “Gypsy,” “The Secret Garden,” “Come from Away,” and “Chess.”
Our performers include Marin Mazzie, Yvonne DeCarlo, Shezwae Powell, Angela Lansbury, Caissie Levy, Allison Frazer, Idina Menzel, Jen Solella, Julie Andrews, Judy Kuh, and more.
We have many more we weren’t able to get to, so we’ll probably be revisiting this theme in the future to give some wonderful performers equal time.
